1. SharePoint Server 2016 Course Introduction (9 min)
SharePoint Server 2016 includes some exciting changes for IT Pros! Brian lays the foundation for the course by introducing the topics we are going to discuss, and by exploring the logical architecture of SharePoint Server 2016.
2. Preparing for Installing SharePoint 2016 Release Candidate (8 min)
It's important to prepare for the installation and configuration of SharePoint 2016 to avoid having to redeploy it. We explore the security settings and permissions necessary to successfully deploy and configure SharePoint Server 2016. We also review the four-to-eight steps used to install and patch SharePoint Server 2016 Release Candidate.
3. Hardware and Software Requirements (5 min)
Brian discusses both the hardware and software requirements for your SharePoint servers, as well as the SQL Servers hosting the SharePoint content. Brian also explores the supported browsers that can be used to access SharePoint 2016.
4. What's New, Improved, or Deprecated (7 min)
Brian walks you through understanding what's new, improved, or deprecated in SharePoint 2016. This will be very helpful if you are already familiar with SharePoint 2013 and want to hear what the differences are between the two. Brian also explores some of the known issues with the SharePoint 2016 Release Candidate that will most likely be addressed in the General Availability of SharePoint 2016 in the spring.
5. MinRole Overview (6 min)
MinRoles are a new and powerful way to configure servers in your SharePoint Server 2016 farm. Brian explores the six MinRoles introduced in SharePoint 2016. Brian also discusses the benefits of MinRoles, the affects on the installation of SharePoint Server 2016, as well as the new parameters needed to support a command line or PowerShell installation of SharePoint Server 2016.
6. MinRole Administration (7 min)
In addition to the change regarding MinRoles during the installation of SharePoint Server 2016, there are changes in Central Administration and some additional PowerShell commands that are specific to managing and configuring MinRoles. Brian explores the areas of Central Administration where you can manage and configure MinRoles, and introduces four PowerShell commands used for managing services and MinRoles.
7. Installing SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 (20 min)
Brian walks through the steps necessary to install the SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 prerequisites and the binaries or bits on the server. Brian then walks through the steps used to create your SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 farm, and finally looks at the steps necessary to add a language pack to the SharePoint Server Beta 2 farm.
8. Patching SharePoint Server 2016 Release Candidate (11 min)
After installing SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2, you will want to upgrade to the newest release of SharePoint Server 2016 Release Candidate. Brian explores the new approach to patching SharePoint. Brian also walks through all of the patch process steps to successfully complete patch process and how to verify the patch was applied.
9. PowerShell in SharePoint 2016 (10 min)
In addition to using the GUI to install, upgrade, and manage SharePoint Server 2016, you can use PowerShell. Brian introduces the five categories of PowerShell cmdlets that can be used in SharePoint 2016, and familiarizes you with them by running some of them in our SharePoint 2016 farm.
10. Upgrading in SharePoint Server 2016 (11 min)
If you've been working with SharePoint 2016 in your test or dev environment, you know there are several flavors of it available. Brian discusses the process involved for working with, and upgrading from, Preview to Beta 2, to the Release Candidate (RC), and to the Release to Manufacturing (RTM). Brian also explores the upgrade steps and tasks involved with upgrading from SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2013.
11. Service Applications in SharePoint 2016 (7 min)
Service applications are very powerful, and necessary to provide additional functionality to SharePoint. Brian explores four service applications including Access, Excel, Search, and Project Server, all of which have changed or been added in SharePoint Server 2016.
12. SharePoint Server 2016 Hybrid Options (6 min)
The SharePoint Server 2016 product is designed to easily integrate with SharePoint Online in Office 365. Brian explores the available hybrid options including OneDrive for Business, hybrid features, and the Cloud Hybrid Search Service Application. Brian also discusses locating documentation on analyzing, planning, and deploying a hybrid solution.
