4. RF Fundamentals (20 min)
In this video Keith describes several characteristics regarding Radio Frequency (RF), and why it is important to know when working with Wireless LANs (WLANs).
5. SNR (5 min)
In this video Keith explains the concept of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), as well as examples of how to calculate it.
6. dBs and Watts (16 min)
Keith describes the relationship between Decibels (dBs) and Watts, and how to do the conversion between the two.
7. Applying dB and mW calculations (4 min)
In this Nugget Keith reinforces the concepts from the video titled "dBs and Watts" by walking through two math scenarios which require conversions.
8. Antenna Fundamentals (13 min)
Keith describes a few of the different antenna types, along with their characteristics.
9. WLAN Frame Types (21 min)
Keith describes three types of Wireless LAN (WLAN) frame types, including Management, Control, and Data. The Wireshark captures used in this video are available for download as part of the NuggetLab files.
10. WLAN Frame Flow (15 min)
Keith demonstrates the literal communications that take place when two nodes in a single cell communicate "directly" with each other.
11. WLAN Disrupters (8 min)
Keith discusses a few other technologies and items that may cause conflict with Wireless LANs (WLANs).
12. WLC and AP Concepts (9 min)
Keith describes how Access Points (APs) can be centrally managed via a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC), including the use of CAPWAP.
13. VLAN Mapped to SSIDs Concepts (14 min)
Keith describes the concept and methods used to associate and forward traffic from an SSID to a specific wired VLAN. In the next Nugget, Keith demonstrates the switch configuration in preparation to support SSID to VLAN mappings.
14. Switch Config for AP and WLC (7 min)
Keith demonstrates how switchports can be configured as access or trunk ports to support the Access Points (APs) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) controller (WLC).
15. WLC Deployment Overview (7 min)
Keith shares an overview of the process for implementing a WLC on the network. In the next video, Keith demonstrates the install. The steps involved are virtually identical for v7 and v8 of the WLC software.
16. WLC Deployment Demonstration (17 min)
Keith demonstrates the installation of a virtual WLC. The process is similar for both v7 and v8 of the WLC software.
17. Deploy a WLAN (18 min)
Keith demonstrates adding a new Wireless LAN (WLAN) that includes a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) working with an Access Point (AP).
18. Linking APs with WLCs (22 min)
Keith describes and walks through the discovery processes that an AP can use to discover and connect to a WLC. The concepts are reinforced by using packet captures using Wireshark.
19. AP Modes (17 min)
Keith describes some of the modes that can be used to configure an Access Point. Demonstrations include sniffer mode, with packet captures being sent to a management computer.
