1. Welcome to Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals (9 min)
Learn what the CP100A – Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals course is all about. We discuss the target audience, walk through the agenda, and hook you up with Google’s internal materials for working with the labs in this course!
2. Introducing Google Cloud Platform (7 min)
Have you ever wondered how Google supports products and services that have more than a billion daily users? The answer is infrastructure! Take a journey with me through the many layers of Google’s infrastructure to learn what powers the Google Cloud Platform.
3. Google Cloud Platform Services (19 min)
Take a tour with me through the realm of cloud computing, Google style! We do a brief overview of the primary products and services Google Cloud Platform has to offer.
4. Demo: Getting Started with Google Cloud Launcher (8 min)
Join me for a fun demonstration of Google Cloud Launcher, an easy way to launch entire software stacks running on Google Compute Engine instances in just a single click! We’ll spin up a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack, configure it, and expose it to the world.
5. Examples of Using Google Cloud Platform (5 min)
See how companies are using Google Cloud Platform to build scalable and cost-effective solutions for their businesses!
6. Lab: Register for the free trial and create a project (9 min)
This lab gets us up and running with Google Cloud Platform! We walk through the free trial sign-up process to collect $300 in credits, and create a project that will serve as the top-level container for everything we do in this course.
7. Interacting with Google Cloud Platform (15 min)
Check out the many tools used to access Google Cloud Platform! We discuss the Google Developer Console for web access, the Google Cloud SDK for command-line access, and the REST APIs for programmatic access to your projects and resources in GCP.
8. Demo: APIs Explorer & OAuth 2.0 Playground (11 min)
I’ll run through a couple of great tools for quickly getting you up to speed developing against Google APIs. The API Explorer is extremely useful for discovering the functionality of an API, and the OAuth 2.0 Playground is a great learning tool for demystifying the OAuth 2.0 "flow."
9. Lab: Configure the Cloud SDK on a Compute Engine Instance (13 min)
This lab will walk you through the process of installing and configuring the Cloud SDK on a Compute Engine virtual machine to set up our lab environment. We also get down and dirty with the incredible new Cloud Shell feature, which is a CLI built right into the WebUI with the SDK built right in!
10. Getting Started with Projects (13 min)
Here’s everything you need to know to get up and running with projects! We cover the basics of projects, project permissions, how Cloud IAM fits into the picture, define the purpose of service accounts, project best practices, and a few things to know regarding Google Apps managed accounts.
11. Google Compute Engine (13 min)
If you’ve ever wondered what Google Compute Engine is, then you’ve come to the right place! We break down what GCE is all about, as well as discuss some of its unique features, resources used to create a cloud infrastructure, billing, and the tools used for creating, managing, and accessing GCE resources.
12. Lab: Getting Started with Compute Engine (13 min)
This lab walks you through the basics of creating a Compute Engine instance. We also host an application by spinning up and linking a dockerized front-end (python app) to a dockerized back-end (redis db), and expose our GCE instance to the internet by creating a firewall rule to allow external traffic onto it. Good times!
13. Google Container Engine (22 min)
Containers by themselves are cool, but not nearly as cool as containers orchestrated and managed by Kubernetes! Join me on a journey through the world of Google Container Engine where we’ll cover the technologies and resources underneath it, and the tools used to manage it. I’ll also run through a kick-ass demonstration of a multi-tiered web app running on a 3-node GKE cluster… REALLY GOOD TIMES!
14. Lab: Getting Started with Container Engine (16 min)
This lab takes you through the process of creating a container cluster and deploying a pod with multiple containers hosting a front-end web application and a back-end database. We also get familiar with the tools for interacting and managing a GKE cluster.
15. Google App Engine (13 min)
Wouldn’t it be great if developers could focus on their application 100 percent of the time? Well, now they can with Google App Engine! See what this very cool PaaS technology is all about as we cover GAE services and workflow, and the Standard and Managed VM environments in which they can live.
16. Lab: Getting started with App Engine (19 min)
This lab walks you through deploying, viewing, and managing an App Engine application. We also look at all of the components that make up an App Engine app and show off some of the great features built into the platform.
17. Google Cloud Datastore (11 min)
Looking for a NoSQL solution fully-managed by Google that will increase developer productivity and give them data layer freedom? Then you’ll want to learn all about Cloud Datastore! Join me as we define where Datastore fits in the GCP storage category and introduce you to data modeling and development.
18. Lab: Getting started with Cloud Datastore (12 min)
This lab walks you through deploying an App Engine application that uses Cloud Datastore to persist its data. We also see how to manage your Cloud Datastore entities in the Developer Console.
19. Google Cloud Storage (11 min)
Need a secure place to store the piles of unstructured data your organization generates, with the ability to access it quickly from anywhere in the world? Google Cloud Storage is the answer! Join me as we look at this highly available object storage product that can store your bags of bytes with ease.
20. Lab: Getting started with Cloud Storage (11 min)
This lab shows you how to create Google Cloud Storage buckets from the Web UI and the command-line, as well as work with the objects they contain. We’ll also spin up an App Engine application that programmatically creates objects through the Cloud Storage JSON API!
21. Google Cloud SQL (8 min)
Are you currently managing your own MySQL server? If the answer is yes, you’ll be wondering why when you see what Cloud SQL is all about! Take a look at this GCP service that removes the administrative burden of managing your own MySQL infrastructure.
22. Lab: Getting started with Cloud SQL (16 min)
Super fun lab alert! Really, this lab is great, it shows you how to create and work with Cloud SQL instances and hit them from applications running on Compute Engine instances. We even spin up Docker containers hosting a MySQL client and a front-end application to work with the databases in a Cloud SQL instance.
23. Google BigQuery (7 min)
Without BigQuery, data warehousing and Big Data analysis is extremely difficult. With BigQuery, it’s a walk in the park! Join me as we take an overview and tour of all things BigQuery.
24. Lab: Getting started with BigQuery (9 min)
We configure Cloud Logging to stream our App Engine request logs into BigQuery for analysis. This is another great lab that spans multiple GCP products!
25. Support & Resources (5 min)
We finish up CP100 with a look at some resources to help you continue your learning journey through the wonderful world of Google Cloud Platform.
